There are now millions of podcasts scattered around the internet. To be brutally honest, most are not worth listening to. That is not the case with Transatlantic, which features two former guests we happened to have hosted twice on Irish Stew.
We'd like to claim that our podcast was the impetus behind Transatlantic’s entry into the podcast world, but the truth is that cohosts Fin Dwyer (Irish History Podcast) and Damien Shiels (Irish in the American Civil War) have known each other since they both worked as archaeologists.
Why should you listen to Transatlantic? If you’re curious about the Irish historical experience and how it played out on both sides of the Atlantic, Fin and Damien tell stories forgotten to many in a relaxed, conversational format.
Recently, Fin and Damien waded into the fraught discussion on Irish identity. Who is legitimately Irish? Do Irish Americans have any claim on Irish identity? Who decides what is Irish? I will note that Damien gave a shout-out to our recent episode with Kate Kerrigan.
While the episode above is particularly pertinent to our listeners, I’d encourage those curious about the Irish story to listen to Transatlantic. It will be time well spent.
